For nearly 40 years, the South Carolina Medical Association Members’ Insurance Trust (SCMA MIT) has been committed to serving the state’s medical community so they can focus on what’s most important: taking care of patients. SCMA MIT easily manages to stand out among its competitors, as the organization provides an exclusive benefits program specially designed only for the medical community of South Carolina. SCMA MIT’s sole purpose is to offer physicians, member employers and their employees the very best in affordable, high-quality health and dental insurance plans. Furthermore, unlike any other self-funded health plan in the state, SCMA MIT is led by physicians. This allows the organization to take a unique approach to medical coverage with distinctive insight on medical professionals’ needs.

At its core, SCMA MIT is a multiple employer welfare arrangement comprised of over 200 large and small businesses across South Carolina who have a strong connection to the medical community. Due to this specialized structure, SCMA MIT is able to minimize common benefit risks by offering its member groups self-funding options for their employer sponsored group health plan. Through SCMA MIT, participating employers have access to claims data and analytics to track group performance during the plan year. Additionally, all members in SCMA MIT can access a comprehensive population health management program to proactively manage cost and employee health at no additional cost to premium.

Another great addition to SCMA MIT is our embedded benefits programs, which like the medical and dental plans, are tailored to serve the medical community. Through partnerships with local, regional and national stakeholders such as Sun Life Financial, SCMA MIT is able to offer programs such as trust-paid short-term disability and basic life and accidental death coverage at no additional cost to members or employers.

Since 1981, South Carolina Medical Association Members’ Insurance Trust has worked diligently to ensure that our members have access to market competitive health insurance products. To find out more on how your business can create strategies toward a better way to stabilize their healthcare costs, access high quality insurance products and receive the highest level of customer service available, please contact SCMA MIT today by visiting www.scmamit.com and request a quote.
