A legacy of growth: Reflecting on impact of the Extension Emerging Leadership Initiative
June 22, 2026
Since launching in 2019, the Extension Emerging Leadership Initiative (EELI) has developed a statewide network of leaders dedicated to advancing Extension programs at Clemson University and South Carolina State University while strengthening communities across South Carolina.
Cohort 5 (pictured) graduated in May, joining more than 70 alumni who have gone on to serve in leadership roles including county coordinators, program directors, association presidents and national working group leaders. Graduates have also earned more than 40 state and national awards and have expanded their impact through colleges, universities, community organizations and professional associations.
Participants meet monthly across the state to develop leadership, communication and organizational skills while building relationships across Extension disciplines. The program also emphasizes community service, with cohorts supporting projects such as Harvest Hope Food Bank, South Carolina State University’s Child Development Center and Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity.
The Class of 2026 graduates include:
- DeAndra Cooper
- Sharneece Gary
- Geri Jenkins
- Alyssa Jones and Rushawnda Olden from Clemson Extension, along with
