A Ministry of Love in Every Stitch: Dress a Girl Around the World at Prince George Winyah

Since 2021, the Dress a Girl Around the World Chapter at Prince George Winyah Parish Church has been quietly, faithfully transforming fabric, thread, and time into something far greater than clothing—into dignity, joy, and hope for girls across the globe. Thanks to the dedication of its sewing team, and to the committee’s careful record keeping, they can now celebrate a remarkable milestone: 1,099 dresses lovingly created and sent to mission partners around the world. 

What began as a small outreach has grown into a vibrant ministry with local members, out of town ambassadors, and even long distance contributors who mail dresses to Georgetown. As the official Dress a Girl ambassadors for South Carolina, the PGW chapter has become a hub of generosity and creativity. Each dress is handmade, prayed over, and finished with a special touch—a pair of panties tucked into the pocket, a simple addition that has brought delight and gratitude to countless girls.

These dresses have traveled farther than many of us ever will. They have crossed oceans, climbed mountains, and arrived in villages, safehouses, churches, and schools where girls often have little to call their own. Each delivery represents a connection—between the parish and communities in need, between makers and recipients, between compassion and action.

Over the past five years, these dresses have traveled widely through the church’s mission partnerships:
• Africa: More than 350 dresses delivered to Kenya, Liberia, and South Africa
• Central America: Over 300 dresses shared in Guatemala and Honduras
• The Caribbean: Nearly 250 dresses sent to Antigua and the Bahamas
• Mexico: More than 130 dresses delivered through ongoing mission partners
• Other Outreach: Additional dresses sent to Egypt, Operation Christmas Child, and Dress a Girl International Headquarters

A Ministry That Continues to Grow
The Dress a Girl ministry at Prince George Winyah is more than a sewing circle—it is a community of women who believe that every girl deserves to feel valued, protected, and beautiful. Through mission partnerships, youth trips, medical teams, and international outreach, these dresses have become symbols of God’s love stitched into fabric. 

This ministry has grown into a beautiful community of service—women stitching together fellowship, purpose, and generosity. The church is grateful for every volunteer, every ambassador, and every mission partner who helps these dresses reach the girls who need them most.
