AARP South Carolina will host Café Voyage: Taste of the Carolinas on Thursday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Busby Street Community Center, 1735 Busby Street, Columbia, SC 29203.
The free event is open to everyone. AARP membership is not required, but registration is required at https://events.aarp.org/ZDEaK1
Café Voyage: Taste of the Carolinas is designed to bring people together through food, fellowship and local resources. Participants will experience a live cooking demonstration from Chef Pearl, enjoy free food from local food trucks, receive giveaways and have the opportunity to win door prizes. Attendees also may enter a sweepstakes for a new KitchenAid mixer and a local recipe book.
The event will also connect attendees with local organizations and resources, including FoodShare, Harvest Hope, Prisma Health and others.
“Community connection is essential to healthy aging,” said James Agens of AARP South Carolina. “Too many older adults experience isolation or go without regular social interaction and access to helpful resources. Café Voyage: Taste of the Carolinas is a welcoming opportunity for people to come together, enjoy good food, learn practical tips for healthy cooking and connect with organizations that can help support their well-being.”
The event reflects AARP’s mission to empower people to choose how they live as they age and aligns with AARP guidance to communicate the social mission value of events first, while using clear, inclusive language that reflects service to all people 50-plus and their communities.
Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the event. Photo, video and interview opportunities will be available with AARP representatives, Chef Pearl, participating organizations and attendees.
