ACEC-SC partners with S.C. engineering groups for Engineers’ Day on the Hill

February 21, 2023

South Carolina’s engineers will gather at the State House on Wednesday, Feb. 22 for Engineers’ Day on the Hill.

The annual event, which coincides with National Engineers’ Week, welcomes engineers across all disciplines to the State House lobby on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Attendees will meet with legislators, discuss the state of the engineering industry today, and be recognized as special guests. The House and Senate will present resolutions and Governor Henry McMaster will issue a proclamation to commemorate the day.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that 30,000 engineers currently practice in South Carolina. With areas of focus ranging from civil, electrical and mechanical to aerospace, biomedical and environmental, engineering plays a role in the infrastructure and technology that South Carolinians use each day. Six public universities within South Carolina offer degrees in engineering, but the demand for engineers is on the rise as projects and opportunities expand across the state.

In addition to the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina (ACEC-SC), nineteen engineering trade groups and associations will take part in the Day on the Hill. The South Carolina chapters of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE), American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), American Public Works Association (APWA), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE), American Water Works Association, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE-SC), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE-SC), Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering Carolinas (SAMPE), SC Aerospace, Structural Engineers Association (SEA), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Water Environment Association and Women in Transportation Services (WTS).

ACEC-SC’s mission is to advocate, advance and protect the business interests of engineering firms and standards of the engineering profession in South Carolina. To learn more about ACEC-SC, visit acecsc.org.
