Adams and Reese adds two former S.C. Dept. of Revenue attorneys to Columbia office

Adams and Reese announced the addition of two associates to its Columbia office. Sarah R. Khouri and Justine M. Tate, both former attorneys with the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR), joined the firm in December.

Sarah KhouriKhouri, a member of the firm’s Transactions and Corporate Advisory Services Practice Group, focuses her transactions and litigation practice in the insurance, banking/financial services, and real estate industries. She most recently served as an attorney in SCDOR’s Office of General Counsel for Litigation. In this role, she handled all aspects of litigation for tax-related and alcohol-licensing matters. Khouri also previously served as an attorney with the S.C. Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office where she drafted, reviewed and negotiated various state agency contracts.

In the legal community, Khouri is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, the Richland County Bar Association and the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association. She is also active with the Junior League of Columbia. Khouri earned her J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law and has spoken at seminars on tax- and alcohol-related issues, most recently at the 2016 South Carolina Bar Convention.

Justine TateTate, also a former member of SCDOR’s General Counsel for Litigation team, has joined the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. She focuses her practice on general litigation in the construction, insurance, transportation and logistics, and retail/consumer products industries. She is also a former chief paralegal for global auction house Sotheby’s, Inc. and for upscale fitness chain Equinox in New York City. Tate also interned at The White House in the Office of Media Affairs.

In the legal community, Tate is a former Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Government, Military and Public Sector Lawyers Committee. She has volunteered with the South Carolina Bar Association Wills Clinic and the S.T.O.P. Violence Against Women Pro Bono Program, an initiative of the South Carolina Attorney General’s office. She is an active member of the South Carolina Bar Association, the Richland County Bar Association and the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association. She earned her J.D. from New York Law School.
