Added educational assistance available to local students

October 7, 2020

As local students and their families continue navigating through new learning environments, Richland Library is offering added educational assistance in three key areas.

As part of the ConnectED Library Card Project, we’re making it easier for children to access a library card.

  • Middle and high school students in Richland School District One and Richland School District Two receive a library account, using their student ID numbers.
  • Elementary school students in Richland School District One and Richland School District Two can apply for one online with a little help from their parents.
  • Homeschool students, private school students and students in other districts can get a library card for free if they live in Richland County.

Our staff is making it easier for families to understand South Carolina education standards, so students can follow the curriculum in their grade level wherever learning is taking place this year and not miss a beat. They’re creating blog posts with parent-friendly language as well as learning activities and book lists for students. Right now, the focus is on science before expanding into social studies, reading and math.

Starting Wednesday, October 7, we’re partnering with Richland School District One to provide outdoors spaces for English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) families at our Main, North Main, Southeast and St. Andrews locations. Over the next four weeks, the evening tech tutoring sessions include instructors, translators, hardware and meals from the school district while the library supplies activity packs, resources for families and library cards. To register, please contact the school district.
