The City of Columbia is accepting applications to fill several vacancies on the following boards and commissions.

BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS (BOZA)

Seeking to fill two (2) vacancies.

The Board of Zoning Appeals is a quasi-judicial board that makes decisions regarding zoning issues. Cases are posted and advertised in accordance with Chapter 17 of the City Code of Ordinances and with Title 30, Chapter 4 of the code of Laws of South Carolina. – Term- 3 years

CAPITAL CITY LAKE MURRAY

Seeking to fill one (1) vacancy.

Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board is a regional tourism office promoting tourism in Lexington, Newberry, Richland and Saluda Counties and the City of Columbia.

CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Seeking to fill four (4) vacancies:  District 2, District 4, Mayoral, and At-Large vacancies.

The purpose of the Citizens Advisory Committee is to make important recommendations for the use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Housing Opportunities for Persons with Aids (HOPWA), and other federal grant programs as assigned. They advise the Mayor and Council on the needs of neighborhoods, review amendments, and make appropriate comments on policies.- Term- 4 years

CLIMATE PROTECTION ACTION COMMITTEE (CPAC)

Seeking to fill six (6) vacancies. 

The Climate Protection Action Committee (CPAC) is a volunteer group whose mission is to develop and advocate effective strategies to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to climate change, conserve natural resources and otherwise protect the environment at a City level, while also fostering an improved quality of life for the citizens of the City of Columbia.

The purpose of CPAC is to recommend and oversee the development and implementation of mission-based programs and projects within the City of Columbia.  Click here for much more information about CPAC. Term- 3 years

COLUMBIA HOUSING AUTHORITY (CHA)

Seeking to fill two (2) vacancies.

The purpose of the Columbia Housing Authority is “to meet the emerging affordable housing needs of low to moderate-income individuals and families in Columbia and Richland County while promoting self-reliance and improving their quality of life”. Term – 5 years.

COMMERCIAL REVOLVING LOAN FUND (CRLF)

Seeking to fill two (2) vacancies: one (1) for an Attorney.

The City of Columbia is accepting applications for the Commercial Revolving Loan Review Board. Individuals applying for this board must be an Attorney. The purpose of this committee is to review and approve/disapprove applications for loans from the City of Columbia Commercial Revolving Loan Fund. – Term- 2 years

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT REVIEW COMMISSION (DDRC)

Seeking to fill four (4) vacancies for: an Architect, a Realtor, and two (2) Community representatives.

The purpose of the Design/Development Review Commission (DDRC) is to review and approve work proposed within the City’s historic districts, urban design areas, and upon designated landmarks. Term – 3 years 

MIDLANDS HOUSING ALLIANCE (MHA)

Seeking to fill one (1) vacancy.

The primary goal of the Midlands Housing Alliance and Transitions, it homeless recovery center, is to move people from homelessness to permanent housing. Various strategies and types of housing are used to stabilize individuals living on the street and enroll them in services designed to stabilize their lives, increase their income, and help them secure permanent housing. – Term- 1 year

MUNICIPAL ELECTION COMMISSION (MEC)

Seeking to fill one (1) vacancy.

The purpose of the Municipal Election Commission is to determine the eligibility of candidates seeking office; count and verify absentee ballots to ensure the integrity of the election process in accordance with state statute; and certifies the results of all municipal elections. – Term- 6 years
