Advertisement of vacancies on various Boards and Commissions

The City of Columbia is accepting applications to fill several vacancies on the following boards and commissions.

Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC)

Seeking three (3) Applicants. 

The purpose of BPAC is to advise the Mayor and City Council Members, the City of Columbia transportation planning staff; community organizations; and partners on bicycling and pedestrian issues facing the city; to work toward development of bicycle/pedestrian master plan; to represent community and constituent interests in transportation planning decisions; and to provide feedback to staff on projects relating to walking and bicycling. Applicant must reside/work within City Limits. Term – 2 years.

Climate Protection Action Committee 

Seeking two (2) applicants. 

Identify measures that can be taken to reduce greenhouse gases. CPAC was initiated to impact climate change, but now also serves as the City’s unofficial environmental clearing house, focusing on air quality, energy conservation, water conservation and recycling/waste reduction. Term – 2 years.

Election Commission

Seeking one (1) Applicant for Appointment.

The purpose of the Municipal Election Commission determines the eligibility of candidates seeking office; counts and verifies absentee ballots to ensure the integrity of the election process in accordance with state statute; conducts Protest Hearings and certifies the results of all municipal elections. Applicants must reside within the City Limits. Term- 6 years

 Design/ Development Review Commission

Seeking one (1) Applicant for Appointment. Applicant must have experience as a City Planner. The purpose of the Design/Development Review Commission (DDRC) is to review and approve work proposed within the City’s historic districts, urban design areas, and upon designated landmarks. Term – 3 years.

Parks and Recreation Foundation

Seeking six (6) Applicants for Appointment.

The purpose of the Parks and Recreation Foundation is to promote programs for the Parks and Recreation Department related to enhancing and expanding the scope of the educational and human development activities. Term—3 years

Property Maintenance Board of Appeals

Seeking two (2) Applicants for Appointment.

The Property Maintenance Board of Appeals (PMBoA) is a volunteer group established for the purpose of hearing appeals to decisions by the Housing Official or to a notice of violation of the International Property Maintenance Code. Appointees must reside within the corporate limits of the City of Columbia. Term- 3 years. 

Deadline –Applications are due no later than October 10, 2019 at 5pm.
