AgFirst Farm Credit Bank supports The Salvation Army’s afternoon reading program.

COLUMBIA, SC – AgFirst Farm Credit Bank held, “Jeans Days” from August 8 through August 29. Each Friday during that time, bank employees could wear jeans if they contributed to The Salvation Army.

For the past several years, AgFirst Farm Credit Bank has conducted “Jeans Days” fundraisers for various charitable organizations, including The Salvation Army. The fundraiser provides an opportunity for bank employees to take an active role in helping the surrounding communities.

Charl Butler, Chief Financial Officer at AgFirst Farm Credit Bank, presented $1,500 raised during “Jeans Days” to Major Roger Coulson, Regional Coordinator / Corps Officer, on September 12, 2014 to support The Salvation Army’s afternoon reading program, Leveraging Literacy.

Leveraging Literacy is an afternoon reading program offering free reading assistance to students in 1st – 5th grade who read below grade level. The program meets during the school year from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at The Salvation of the Midlands (3024 Farrow Road in Columbia, SC).

“We are so grateful to our friends at AgFirst for their generous support,” said Major Coulson. “These funds will help us continue meeting the basic needs of local people who experience poverty.”
