All Clear: Security Threat Resolved After Suspicious Packages Prompt Evacuation at Simpsonville Municipal Complex

July 8, 2026

Local authorities have given the all-clear following a major security scare that forced the evacuation and temporary closure of the Simpsonville Municipal Complex on Wednesday morning.

According to an immediate release from the Simpsonville Police Department, the incident began Wednesday morning when suspicious packages were discovered outside the Simpsonville Municipal & South Greenville Summary Court building, located at 445 E. Curtis St.

Upon receiving the report, Simpsonville officials acted quickly to secure the facilities of the wider Municipal Complex. Members of the public and non-essential personnel were immediately evacuated from the area before authorities closed the entire complex grounds to conduct a thorough sweep. The expansive campus includes City Hall, the Fire and Police departments, the joint city-county courthouse, and the local Arts Center.

The Simpsonville Police Department spearheaded the investigation, coordinating on-scene efforts alongside other law enforcement agencies, including the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office and its specialized Bomb Squad.

Following a detailed multi-agency afternoon investigation, law enforcement officially determined that there is no longer a security threat to the area.

While the complex is safe, the disruption has forced a few immediate scheduling adjustments:

  • Municipal Court: The Simpsonville Municipal Court session originally scheduled for Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m. has been officially cancelled.

  • Park Reopening: Nearby Gracely Park has been cleared and safely reopened to the public for the remainder of the day.

  • Normal Operations: All official facilities on the Simpsonville Municipal Complex grounds are scheduled to return to normal operating hours on Thursday morning.

Details regarding the exact nature or contents of the suspicious packages have not yet been released. Authorities have not indicated if any suspects are being questioned in connection with the incident.
