Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® helps reclaim the future for millions

September 20, 2016

The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting all Upstate area residents to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®. Three Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place in the Upstate communities of Greenville, Rock Hill and Spartanburg. The Rock Hill Walk will take place on October 1st at Old Town Rock Hill in Rock Hill, the Greenville Walk will take place on October 8th at Fluor Field in Greenville, and the Spartanburg Walk will take place on October 22nd at Barnet Park in Spartanburg.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s is more than a walk. It is an experience for over 900 participants in Rock Hill, almost 2,000 participants in Greenville, and nearly 1,200 participants in Spartanburg who will learn about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities and clinical studies enrollment to support programs and services. Walk participants also honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony.

“Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a wonderful way for the community to come together to show support for families facing Alzheimer’s, honor those we have lost to this disease, and take meaningful steps that will bring us closer to a cure, ” said Cindy Alewine, President/CEO of Alzheimer’s Association South Carolina Chapter.

In addition to the around two mile walk at each location, participants will enjoy a special tribute to those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s more than 5 million Americans to as many as 16 million by 2050.
