American Cancer Society announces new Board Chair for Upstate South Carolina

February 21, 2023

American Cancer Society volunteer and passionate advocate Shannon Reilly has been appointed Chair of the American Cancer Society Upstate South Carolina Board of Directors. Shannon has been a small business owner, non-profit fundraiser, and floral designer in her past. Currently, Shannon works with C. Dan Joyner, Realtor as a realtor and previously was their director of business and community relations. Since working at C. Dan Joyner, Realtor, several members of the family have been diagnosed with cancer. Reilly’s beginnings with the American Cancer Society were through hosting a charity golf tournament benefitting the American Cancer Society.

“‘Strength’ is the influence of power possessed by a person or organization,” Reilly said. “This describes the American Cancer Society perfectly. Each of us on the board have the ability to rally our networks and make a real difference in the lives of those touched by cancer and to give those impacted HOPE. Strength of the relationships we each have in our communities allows us to be the hands and feet of the ACS by fostering awareness, providing resources, education, and promoting change by fundraising on the local level for research, among many other programs. Being on this board for several years and now serving as chairwoman means so much to be on a deeply personal level. Cancer has affected my family just as it has so many others.”

“It is with great honor and pride to say that Shannon is stepping up in this way to be a leader, a connector and an ignitor,” said Mary Gwen Kistler, senior development manager for the American Cancer Society, Upstate South Carolina. “I have known Shannon for a couple of years now. She’s always using her connections for good, and I know with her passion, she will do everything in her power to help be a light and force for good in the Upstate. Every cancer patient who hears the words, ‘you have cancer’ will know that they have someone in their corner – fighting right alongside them. Every Cancer. Every Life.”
