American Heart Association Names Nexsen Pruet Gold Level

April 30, 2008

COLUMBIA, SC – April 29, 2008 – Nexsen Pruet has been named a Gold Level “Fit-Friendly Company” by the American Heart Association in recognition of the firm’s commitment to providing physical activity and fitness opportunities to its employees.

The Fit-Friendly program was created as a catalyst for positive change in American businesses. Companies that earn the designation have demonstrated “progressive leadership by making the health and wellness of their employees a priority,” according to the Heart Association.

“Wellness is central to our culture, and this honor reflects our dedication to shaping a workplace that supports the health and well being of our employees,” said Leighton Lord III, chairman of the board of Nexsen Pruet.

Nexsen Pruet is one of just eight Gold Level companies in the Midlands, and the only law firm recognized.

The firm’s focus on fitness is illustrated by the development of an innovative two-part wellness program aimed at encouraging employees to adopt healthier lifestyles.

In Phase 1, called “Strides,” participants earned Strides miles for various health-related activities, ranging from running and lifting weights to skipping soft drinks for a week; the miles could then be used for prizes such as iPods and gift certificates. Those who continued to pursue their fitness goals in Phase 2, called “Choices,” were able to keep their employee insurance premiums at the previous year’s level.  Both phases have had high employee participation.

Nexsen Pruet, LLC is one of the largest law firms in the Carolinas, with more than 170 attorneys and offices in Columbia, Charleston, Greenville, Hilton Head, and Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C.  Founded in 1945, Nexsen Pruet provides a broad range of legal services to the business community and represents companies and other entities in local, state, national, and international venues.
