April 27, 2026Vietnam Veteran Honored in Greenwood
The American Legion Post 20 and Auxiliary Unit 20, with support from Veterans Last Patrol and Family Hospice, held a Veterans Honor Ceremony for Forrest Ray Alexander on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Ashley Square Assisted Living and Retirement Community in Greenwood.
Alexander enlisted in the United States Army in 1967, earning the rank of Corporal while serving as a lineman in the 426th Signal Battalion. He received several commendations before an honorable discharge in 1970, then built a career as a lineman with Duke Power. He is the proud father of four children and is currently under the care of Family Hospice.
Alexander was presented with Appreciation Certificates from the American Legion, Veterans Last Patrol, Family Hospice, and U.S. Senator Tim Scott, along with commemorative dog tags, a Quilt of Valor, and a large print Bible. His life — from serving in uniform to powering communities as a civilian lineman — reflects decades of quiet dedication and sacrifice.
