American Legion Post 25 Reflects on a Year of Service and Sets Ambitious Goals for 2025

January 1, 2025

As the calendar turns to 2025, American Legion Post 25 reflects on a transformative year of service and achievement in the community. Exactly one year ago, members gathered at their newly acquired property, envisioning the future. This New Year’s Day, they assembled again—this time under the shelter of a newly constructed pavilion, symbolizing progress as they continue working toward their ultimate goal of a main building.

A Year of Accomplishments
2024 marked a banner year for Post 25, as they met their charitable and community service goals while expanding their reach across Laurens County. Highlights included:
• Community Service Projects: Members constructed handicap ramps, repaired roofs and flooring, and removed trees to assist those in need. The post also organized litter cleanup efforts and managed the upkeep of two local cemeteries.
• Wreaths Across America Expansion: The post’s dedication to honoring veterans expanded significantly, with the program now including several additional sites.
• Successful Fundraising Efforts: A well-supported golf tournament, boot drives, and Christmas toy donation programs received enthusiastic community participation. These initiatives provided essential funding for their ongoing projects.
• Support Networks: The Legion Riders, Sons of the American Legion, and Auxiliary played key roles in supporting and executing Post 25’s efforts throughout the year.

“2024 was a tremendous year for us,” said Post Commander Kevin Farnsworth. “We not only met our goals but exceeded them in many areas. It’s a testament to the dedication of our members and the incredible support from our community. Together, we’ve made a real difference.”

Responding to Emergencies
Post 25 demonstrated unwavering commitment in the face of challenges, particularly after the hurricane that struck Laurens County. Members worked tirelessly to remove trees from roofs and roadways in Clinton, Waterloo, and Laurens. They also extended their relief efforts to North Carolina, delivering supplies such as blankets, coats, hats, gloves, food, and water to those in need.

“We’re always ready to step up when the need arises,” Farnsworth added. “Whether it’s helping a neighbor after a storm or honoring our veterans, service is at the heart of what we do and we strive to be a force for good in the community.”

Supporting Veterans and Schools
January 1, 2025, began with a roof repair for an 85-year-old veteran in Cross Hill, setting the tone for another impactful year. The post’s ongoing support for veterans also includes helping the City of Laurens Police Department with road closures and conducting flag disposal ceremonies. With three community flag disposal boxes, the post collected thousands of flags in 2024, ensuring proper and respectful retirement.

In addition to serving veterans, Post 25 is actively engaged in educational initiatives, with multiple projects planned at Laurens Middle School for the coming year.

Looking Ahead
Post 25’s plans for 2025 are already underway, building on the momentum of their successful year. Their vision remains rooted in making a tangible difference in the lives of veterans, their families, and the broader Laurens County community.
For those inspired by their work, American Legion Post 25 welcomes volunteers, donations, and community collaboration to support their initiatives in the year ahead.
