New Member Institution to Expand MBA Program to Greenville Market

GREENVILLE, SC – June 12, 2012 – The Board of Trustees of the University Center of Greenville, Inc. (UCG)  announces the addition of Anderson University (AU) as the University Center’s seventh Academic Member. The addition of AU strengthens UCG’s mission as a coalition of community leaders working in collaboration with academic and public sector leaders to advance access and attainment of higher education bachelor, masters, and doctoral degrees benefiting the citizens and economic community of Greater Greenville, South Carolina.

Dr. Marsha Dowell, PhD, RN, Senior Vice Chancellor of the University of South Carolina Upstate, says, As Chair of the Academic Members Council at UCG, I speak on behalf of the UCG Academic Member institutions in welcoming Anderson University to the University Center. Each of our current Member institutions is unique and offers multiple opportunities for students and potential students to obtain degrees in higher education. We are pleased that Anderson University will join us and offer additional educational programs for the citizens of Greater Greenville.

Ben Haskew, President of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, adds, “Anderson University’s partnership with the University Center of Greenville is good news for our community.  As we continue work to grow per capita income, education is one of four driving factors that will make Greenville and the Upstate region stronger economically.  The additional MBA programs Anderson University will offer will be attractive to our citizens and the business community.”

A long-standing institution in the Upstate, AU celebrated its Centennial in 2011, and was named the #1 “Up and Coming” college in the South by U.S. News & World Report. As a part of AU’s continued growth over the last several years, it will expand into the Greenville market first with its Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. The AU MBA focuses on quantitative and qualitative management practices within a Christian ethical framework.

Not only is the Anderson MBA one of the most affordable and convenient programs available in the Upstate, but its focus on ethics distinguishes it from other programs,” says Barry Ray, Anderson University spokesman. “Our graduates believe that it is important to be given the most effective and cutting-edge tools to develop business leadership, but that those tools should be employed within an ethical framework so that they can lead with integrity. Additionally, our program is designed with ‘real world applications’ drawn from the widely varied professional backgrounds of our professors. These backgrounds include various sectors of industrial as well as military careers.

David A. Taylor, President and Chief Operating Officer of UCG, adds, Anderson University’s academic programs will be excellent complements to over 70 bachelor, masters, and doctoral degrees offered by Member Academic institutions at UCG. The initial offering of Anderson University’s fully-accredited and very competitively-priced MBA program directly supports our mission of facilitating attainment of cost-effective and centrally-located higher education degrees for the benefit of Greater Greenville’s citizens and economic community.

Designed for the working professional, the MBA program offers one of the best values in the Upstate, as the tuition for the program is significantly less than most other locally-available accredited MBA programs. This local value is further reflected by the university’s fourth consecutive placement on “America’s 100 Best College Buys” – an independent ranking by Institutional Evaluation & Research, Inc.

Classes will be offered at UCG and the 36 credit hour program can be completed in just 20 months. Instructors include professional faculty members, all with PhD’s and industry experience.  Students will have the advantage of completing the program in cohorts, and focusing on one course at a time.

We are most excited to be partnering with the University Center of Greenville. As we launch this initial program, we look forward to becoming in integral part of the great opportunities UCG provides to students in the Greenville area,” says Dr. Danny Parker, Anderson University Provost. “We believe that UCG is one of the most important educational assets in the state and we’re happy to be a part of expanding its already impressive list of degree options.
