Anna Fender of 1×1 Design elected to Leadership Columbia Advisory Board

November 5, 2019

This is the fourth year Fender has been selected to counsel in the development program

The 1×1 Design team congratulates Anna Fender, IIDA, LEED AP, for continuing her service on the 2019-2020 Leadership Columbia Advisory Board. This is her fourth year elected to the board.

A 2013 Leadership Columbia graduate, Fender has served in a variety of roles since joining the advisory board in 2016. This year, her concentration is working with committee members on planning class days related to health and human services as well as chairing the environmental class day.

“This program is a pillar in our community,” says Fender. “By being involved directly with the class, I feel as though I am able to expand my knowledge and be part of something much larger than myself.”

Leadership Columbia is a program through the Columbia Chamber. Each year, around 60 candidates are chosen based on community involvement, capacity for leadership and commitment to improving the Midlands. This ten-month program includes a two-day retreat, nine monthly day-long sessions and a class project.

“The class project process is a continuation of the creative process for me,” says Fender. “l love brainstorming ideas and being surrounded by individuals creating meaningful change in Columbia. It is energizing and keeps me coming back!”

“The program focuses on taking an in-depth look at key issues facing the community,” says 1×1 Design President Asheley Scott St. John, AIA LEED AP. “Anna is an enthusiastic asset to the advisory board because of her passion for helping people and her work ethic in finding a solution. We see it every day at 1×1.”
