Anthony Dixon has been named the new principal of Philip Simmons Middle School located in Cainhoy Plantation in Cainhoy, South Carolina. The Berkeley County School Board approved the appointment at their meeting on Tuesday, November 10. Dixon will begin his new assignment in January 2016 to prepare for the opening of the school in August 2016.

Dixon began his career as a Special Services educator in both Charleston and Berkeley Counties. Dixon has eight years of experience as a principal, leading Memminger School of Global Studies, Sanders-Clyde Elementary/Middle and, currently, Cainhoy Elementary/Middle School. He also served Berkeley County School District as an assistant principal at Boulder Bluff and Daniel Island School.

“I am completely honored to be given the opportunity to serve as the first principal of the new Philip Simmons Middle School,” said Anthony Dixon. “This is an opportunity to create a world-class educational program and provide each student with a learning experience that incorporates the STEAM concepts. I look forward to working with the faculty and staff, students, parents and the greater community.”

Aside from his role in Berkeley County School District, Dixon serves his community by working with area non-profits such as Wings for Kids, college and career readiness programs and directing GEAR UP at the College of Charleston.
