Anthony Dixon selected to serve as Chief of Schools

Charleston County School District (CCSD) is proud to announce Dr. Anthony Dixon as Interim Chief of Schools. Dixon rejoins CCSD from Berkeley County School District (BCSD) where he has served as Chief of Academics and Innovation and Chief of Secondary Schools for the last two years.

Dixon first entered the field of education in 2000 as the GEAR Up Program Director at the College of Charleston (CofC). While serving in this capacity, he also began his teaching career as a special education teacher at St. Stephen Elementary School in BCSD and Memminger Elementary School (CCSD).

An accomplished educator and leader, Dixon has been the recipient of many awards and accolades throughout his career including being selected as Berkeley County Secondary Principal of the Year (2017 and 2018), CCSD Elementary Learning Community Principal of the Year (2014), CofC Kappa Delta Pi Educational Achievement Awardee (2011), Lucille S. Whipper Minority Leadership Awardee (2000), U.S. Department of Education American Star of Teaching SC Recipient (2006), and St. Stephen Elementary School Teacher of the Year (2005).

Dixon earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the College of Charleston and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Special Education: Learning and Emotional Disabilities from the University of Charleston. He holds a +30 certification in Elementary Administration from The Citadel, as well as earned an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from South Carolina State University.
