Applications now open for Dorchester County’s Summer Youth Employment Program

Dorchester County Government announces the return of its annual workforce development program designed for local teenagers and young adults. This initiative supports individuals aged 16-22, offering them a unique opportunity to develop workplace readiness skills and gain valuable experience within the various departments of local government.

Participants will be involved in a variety of roles, including office administration, customer service, and general labor. This program not only enhances the participants’ professional capabilities but also strengthens their engagement with the community.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Age 16-22 at the time of application submission.
  • Must be currently enrolled in high school or college, with proof of enrollment required.
  • Residency in Dorchester County.
  • Ability to attend orientation on June 17, 2024, at the Kenneth F. Waggoner Services Building at 201 Johnston Street, St. George.
  • Availability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Program Details: The eight-week program is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 17, 2024, and will end on Friday, August 2, 2024. It is structured to provide the youth of Dorchester County with the skills necessary to thrive in a professional setting.

Application Process: Applications are now open and must be submitted by 5:00 PM on May 24, 2024. Prospective participants can apply online. For those without personal computer access, computers are available at all Dorchester County Public Libraries.
