Area mayors to proclaim August Homeless to Hope Month, provide update on Homeless to Hope Benefit Concert
July 30, 2019Please join Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg and Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie for a press conference to proclaim August 2019 as Homeless to Hope Month and provide an update on the second annual Homeless to Hope Benefit Concert at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2019 in Council Chamber at Charleston City Hall, located at 80 Broad Street.
At the press conference, Indigo Road Restaurant Group Managing Partner Steve Palmer, who experienced homelessness as a teenager, will announce a donation to the Homeless to Hope Fund, resulting from a July fundraising effort among the group’s 21 restaurants, which span South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Washington, DC.
WCSC Live 5 News VP & General Manager Dan Cates will also make an announcement regarding plans for the station’s second fundraising TV Telethon Concert in August, and iHeart Radio host Kelly Golden will introduce the radio spots planned to promote the concert.
Sponsored by the Mayors’ Commission on Homelessness and Affordable Housing, the concert will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2019 in the Gaillard Center Performance Hall, located at 2 George Street. Concert proceeds will benefit the Homeless to Hope Fund, managed by the Palmetto Project, which helps persons transitioning from homelessness into permanent housing through a network of local service providers.
Performances at the August 25th concert will include: Mayor John Tecklenburg on piano and Mayor Will Haynie on guitar; Lowcountry Music Hall of Fame inductees Blue Dogs; soulful vocalist Zandrina Dunning and BlackNoyze Band; percussive Rock band Rene Russell and the Bottom End; Singers from the College of Charleston Choir, Charleston Symphony Chorus and the Taylor Festival Choir under the direction of Dr. Rob Taylor.
Last year’s Homeless to Hope Benefit Concert raised $135,000 in support of the fund.
