Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration set for May 18

GREENVILLE, SC – May 18, 2013 – Groups interested in taking part in the 13th AnnualGreenville Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration can now startsubmitting entry forms for the event. The Greenville Armed Forces DayParade and Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013. More than30 groups took part last year.

Theevent is hosted and sponsored by Lockheed Martin, The FluorGovernment Group, Greenville County Schools, the Greenville Drive andvarious Upstate veterans’ groups. The purpose of the event is to honoractive, retired and deceased men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces forservice to the nation. Veterans and members of our military areencouraged to contact organizers to learn more about how they canparticipate. Theparade will begin at 5 p.m., traveling down Main Street, beginning atthe intersection of McBee Avenue and ending at Markley Street.  It willculminate at Fluor Field with military displays, performances by highschool bands, JROTC demonstrations, classic cars and more.

HonorFlight Upstate South Carolina will be highlighted in both the paradeand celebration, as its World War II honorees participate in the day’sfestivities. Honor Flight Upstate South Carolina has flown nearly 800World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., to see their memorial sinceits founding in 2007.
