Arthur State Bank celebrates 90 years of service to the Upstate community

April marks a significant milestone for Arthur State Bank as the community bank celebrates its 90th anniversary. Founded in 1933 in Union, South Carolina, Arthur State Bank has been a trusted financial partner for generations of families and businesses. Arthur State Bank was established during the Great Depression when many banks failed, and communities were left without access to financial services. Its founder, Major General Harry M. Arthur, originally owned a chain of department stores before he saw a need for banks in the Upstate community. He went to his father, a retired banker, and asked him to come out of retirement to be the secretary and treasurer of the bank, and Harry Arthur would be the chairman and president. As the bank moved through the generations, it grew and added services to serve its customers better. In the late 1980s, Arthur State Bank expanded into larger markets such as Spartanburg, Greenville, Columbia, and Rock Hill.

“Through my time at the bank, we have seen major developments in the banking industry.
