Ashley Tankersley, DMD, joins the experts at Carolinas Center for Oral & Facial Surgery

July 29, 2020

Carolinas Center for Oral & Facial Surgery, the largest premier oral and maxillofacial surgery facility across the Carolinas and one of the largest in the country, is pleased to announce Ashley Tankersley, DMD, to their team of highly skilled and experienced physicians. Dr. Tankersley, a Greenville native, will join Jim Howell, DMD, Mary Haigler, DMD, MS, and Waheed Mohamed, DDS, MD, in providing a full scope of oral surgery services including wisdom teeth removal, TMJ disorder treatment, and corrective jaw surgery to residents in the greater Greenville area.

Ashley Tankersley, DMD, has deep roots in the community and decided to follow in her father’s footsteps to become an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. “I always knew I wanted to come back to Greenville after my residency training,” Dr. Tankersley explains. “It’s a unique and enticing opportunity to provide care in a community I care about. It allows me to have a doctor-patient relationship on a deeper level.”

The Clemson University graduate received her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree (DMD) from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine. After achieving her general dentistry residency at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC, she continued her education and completed an internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She was accepted into the Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at the UMMC, where no more than two residents are selected a year. There she gained extensive hospital-based training and specializes in jaw surgery, facial trauma, TMJ surgery, dental implant reconstruction, pathology, and more.

Outside of work, Dr. Tankersley enjoys cheering on the Clemson Tigers and spending time with her husband and dogs. Tankersley is passionate about giving back to the community and she’s currently helping design a program that will launch in the winter that aims to provide mentorship to the next generation of aspiring medical students. She says she is inspired to give back to the community that helped drive her passion to become a doctor. She also is an advocate for women in oral and maxillofacial surgery and serves as a mentor for residents through AAOMS.
