Aspen & Figs Reopens in Downtown Clinton with a Floral Focus
May 7, 2025Owner Mary Beth Spry Celebrates a New Chapter Nearly Two Years After Original Launch
After nearly nine months of rebuilding following the August 2024 fire that damaged multiple downtown businesses, Aspen & Figs is set to reopen on Friday, May 9, 2025, at its new location: 113 N Broad Street in Clinton. Just in time for Mother’s Day, owner Mary Beth Spry is returning to her roots—literally—with a renewed focus on floral design.
Originally opened in May 2023 at 116 Musgrove Street, the previous location was lost to the downtown fire that changed the course of many small businesses in the area. Now, almost exactly two years later, Spry is embracing a scaled-back, more personal vision for Aspen & Figs.
“This won’t be the big artisan-style shop it was before,” Spry said. “This time, it’s about flowers—fresh, custom, beautiful flowers. I may offer a few gift items, maybe even some things made by my family, but the heart of the business is floral.”
Spry, who holds a certificate in floral design from Greenville Technical College, has long considered flower arranging her art form. “I love the creativity of it. I love the colors. I love that no two are ever the same,” she said. “I feel like it’s my art.”
That passion has carried her through years of experience, including custom arrangements for special events and weekly altar flowers for local churches—some of which kept her business afloat after the fire. She’s also created florals for weddings, rehearsal dinners, and even events for Presbyterian College. Since 2022, she has handled the large-scale floral needs for the South Carolina Citizens for Life banquet, which now hosts more than 100 tables.
“I’m excited to move it off my kitchen island and back into a dedicated space—with a real flower cooler,” Spry laughed.
Spry’s love for florals dates back to her teenage years, learning alongside her mother, who was a garden club member and flower show judge in the 1980s. “I fell in love with it watching her,” she said. “She helped me before I even took classes.”
To celebrate the reopening, Aspen & Figs will have plenty of fresh flowers available beginning Thursday, May 8, with pre-made Mother’s Day arrangements ready for pickup and custom options available.
For those eager to support a small business built on resilience and creativity, Aspen & Figs is a must-visit this Mother’s Day weekend and beyond. Store hours will be 11 AM – 6 PM Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 10 AM – 3 PM on Saturday.
