AT&T expands fiber internet to over 500,000 locations in South Carolina

May 1, 2025

AT&T has expanded its fiber internet network to more than 500,000 customer locations across South Carolina. The move is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to improve access to high-speed internet and reduce the digital divide in both urban and rural communities.

Customers in cities and towns such as Aiken, Anderson, Charleston, Columbia, Cheraw, Florence, Greenville, Mt. Pleasant, Newberry, Seneca, Spartanburg, and Timmonsville can now access AT&T Fiber, which offers internet speeds of up to 5 Gbps in select areas.

“Access to high-speed internet is critical to strengthening our economy, creating jobs, and ensuring families and businesses have the tools they need to thrive,” said Governor Henry McMaster.

AT&T’s network upgrade supports services such as remote work, virtual learning, telehealth, and streaming, allowing multiple devices to connect with minimal lag. The company says it continues to invest in both its fiber and 5G infrastructure to meet growing demand.

“We are continually working to help close the digital divide by expanding our fiber footprint and enhancing our 5G network,” said Terrance Ford, Vice President of External Affairs for AT&T South Carolina. “AT&T has been investing in South Carolina for 145 years.”

AT&T offers several internet plans, including Access from AT&T, a low-cost program for eligible households. This plan provides speeds up to 100 Mbps for $30/month plus tax and fees.

From 2019 to 2023, AT&T invested more than $1.4 billion in its wireless and wireline networks throughout South Carolina.
