Bank of America Plaza receives Bronze Award as Bike Friendly Business from national bicyclist organization

Local Columbia building the first in the city to receive designation as part of The League of American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly Business program.

In a joint initiative between building ownership and Colliers International’s real estate management team, Bank of America Plaza has been given the Bronze Award and the designation as a Bike Friendly Business by The League of American Bicyclists, a national bicyclist organization. The multi-tenant office building, located at 1901 Main Street in downtown Columbia, is the only building in the city to receive such a designation.

The Bronze Award is a part of the League’s Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) program, which recognizes employers who create more welcoming atmospheres for employees, customers and the community who bicycle. The League notes that businesses who pursue such bike friendly accommodations encourage better employee health, lower the business’s carbon footprint and create a positive working environment. Businesses who are interested in earning such a status must complete a rigorous application process and meet the high standards set by the League. The designations must be re-earned every four years.

“The ownership team at Bank of America Plaza has been dedicated to investing in our downtown Columbia community and encouraging healthier habits for tenants and visitors,” said Shelly Pyle, the Property Manager with Colliers International who leads the property management team for Bank of America Plaza. “By leading the way in pursuing a Bike Friendly Business designation, we hope that Bank of America Plaza will inspire other business and property owners to follow suit in Columbia.”

Bank of America Plaza’s designation is the result of several months’ work from the building’s ownership and property management team, and comes as the building pursues other renovations and upgrades to improve tenant and customer experiences. Such projects include new exterior and garage lighting, which will conclude in October, as well as a new lobby security desk and directory. The exterior lighting in particular allows Bank of America Plaza to use colors and angles for interesting effect, making it possible for the building to become a festive part of the skyline during events and celebrations.

“In the meantime,” said Pyle, “we look forward to welcoming Columbia’s bicyclists to Bank of America Plaza.”
