Batdorf will serve as assistant professor of science education at BJU

GREENVILLE, SC – Dr. Brad Batdorf will serve as assistant professor of science education in the School of Education at Bob Jones University this fall. Batdorf previously served as program coordinator and adjunct faculty for the Science Education program at BJU as well as the secondary writers manager and secondary science writer at BJU Press.

Batdorf earned a BS in Science Education (1985) and EdD in Curriculum and Instruction (2012) from BJU. He also earned an MA in Biology (1988) from The Citadel.

Batdorf served as an adjunct instructor for the School of Education at BJU and for the Zoo Science program at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. He was also a secondary science and math teacher at Northside Christian School in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Batdorf is a member of the National Science Teachers Association and has been certified by the South Carolina Board of Education in Secondary Science. He has presented more than 80 in-service workshops for teachers at multiple private schools in the United States and the Philippines with diverse student populations on topics such as teaching strategies, assessment, science content, and student learning, many with an emphasis on teaching science to schools.

Outside of the classroom, Batdorf is an active member of Suber Road Baptist Church in Greer, where he has served as an adult Sunday school teacher, choir member, and deacon. He has also participated in a weekly ministry at the Overcomers Center at Miracle Hill in Greenville.

“I’m thrilled to be coordinating the science education program–more than 30 years after I completed this same degree,” says Batdorf. “Though teaching standards and technology have certainly changed, the School of Education’s commitment to ‘preparing Christian teachers to be models of learning and life’ is stronger than ever.”

A resident of Greer, he and his wife have two adult daughters, both alumnae of BJU.
