Bauknight Pietras & Stormer adds David M. Ward as a firm partner

Bauknight Pietras & Stormer, P.A. (BPS), is pleased to announce that David M. Ward, CPA, will join the firm’s leadership team as a partner effective January 1, 2021. With the promotion, will assume strategic and operational responsibilities for the South Carolina-based, nationally ranked accounting and tax consultancy firm.

Commenting on the announcement, BPS Managing Shareholder Russell Bauknight said, “We’re pleased to start 2021 by welcoming David as a partner. One of BPS’ goals is to grow our own talent by hiring smart and investing in professional development. So it was very gratifying to have David ascend to the firm’s leadership team. Since joining BPS, he’s focused on building an industry-leading knowledge base in property and casualty insurance, which in turn contributed to BPS’ growth. He’s an asset to our clients, the firm, and younger team members who also want to grow their careers with BPS.”

Ward joined BPS in 2006 straight out of college, rising through the ranks to become a lead audit professional on BPS’ property and casualty insurance team, which includes regional and national commercial carriers, mutual insurers, captive insurance, reciprocals, and risk retention groups domiciled throughout the United States. He consults on a national basis with clients considering establishing captive insurance companies on the issues of feasibility, formation, operations, and governance. Ward is a member of captive insurance associations in South Carolina, North Carolina and Vermont, and chairs the education committee for the South Carolina Captive Insurance Association and coordinates its Captive Academy.

Ward’s clientele also includes energy infrastructure, construction and distribution companies, as well as associations, non-profits and employee benefit plans. As a BPS trusted advisor, he provides guidance to clients on internal controls, best practices, and complex accounting matters including the impact various transactions will have on clients’ financial statements and related disclosures.

A native of Lexington, South Carolina, Ward earned a B.S. in Business Administration-Accounting and a Master of Accountancy from the University of South Carolina. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.
