BCSD to host Teacher Recruitment Fair Saturday, March 12

March 9, 2016

Berkeley County School District (BCSD) will host its 15th Annual Teacher Recruitment Fair on Saturday, March 12, from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Cane Bay High School (1624 State Rd., Summerville). The District is seeking to hire experienced educators and those who are new to the teaching profession. Over 325 individuals have pre-registered for the event.

“Berkeley County is a diverse school district, both with our students and our teachers,” said BCSD Teacher of the Year Amanda Cromer. “Berkeley County provides a wealth of collaborative support through our Professional Learning Communities, and our teachers are encouraged to think outside of the box while maintaining the level of rigor expected to produce future-minded students.”

Berkeley County School District serves over 33,000 students, offering teachers diverse opportunities to apply their talents as they work with students in a variety of settings and programs across the district.  Additionally, BCSD high schools host the Academies of Berkeley County, providing opportunities for teachers to partner with the growing Berkeley County business community to create customized curriculum to prepare students for world-class careers. Teachers in BCSD also have the opportunity to participate in an active Teacher Forum, providing them the opportunity to give input about District policies, procedures and practices.

“Teachers continue to choose Berkeley County in order to become a part of our ‘culture of caring’, confirmed through our recent visit with the AdvancEd Accreditation team,” said Superintendent Brenda Blackburn. “Our teachers are welcomed into excellent community schools, enjoy access to lakes, rivers and beaches, and receive some of the best career support available. BCSD offers teachers a thorough induction program and further supports teachers with two full-time District based mentors, an additional layer of support to existing school based mentors.”

Berkeley County is the fastest growing county in the Lowcountry and the third fastest growing county in the state. District officials are working with county administrators and their legislative delegation to create a strategic plan to address the growth. BCSD will open two new schools in August, and have begun construction on a new high school scheduled to open in August 2017. BCSD will break ground on two additional elementary schools in the fall.

Superintendent Blackburn added, “Growth is exciting! With growth comes opportunities and advanced programming. We are excited to welcome new teachers to our District and work with those teachers to continue our legacy of excellence. Come out Saturday, March 12, and learn why you should choose BCSD.”
