BCSD welcomes the new school year with a new app, a re-designed website and a new logo

August 10, 2016

MONCKS CORNER, SC – Berkeley County School District (BCSD) is excited to welcome students back to school on August 15 and to announce new tools available for parents and stakeholders that will help them stay up-to-date on what is happening with their student and in their schools. BCSD has launched a new BCSD app, re-designed its website and created a new logo.

The new app

The new BCSD app, Berkeley County SD, is available for download now in the app store, and is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. The app provides parents and stakeholders with the school tools they need in one place. Parents and guardians will have on demand access to student and school information, important notifications like emergency alerts, school closures and early releases. Additionally, the new app provides easy access to school and teacher pages, assignments, grades, lunch menus and balances, athletics schedules, social media, and more. Parents and guardians can also opt-out of certain messaging and manage how they receive messaging and alerts from the schools and the district.

“We are very excited about the launch of the Berkeley County SD app,” said Diane Driggers, BCSD Executive Director of Technology. “This app allows us to streamline communication and bring important information from all platforms to one central location. I know that this tool will be useful to our parents as they continue to engage with their schools and the district.”

Re-designed website

BCSD launched a new website in the fall of 2015; however, feedback from district personnel, parents and stakeholders regarding ways to improve navigation prompted a re-design of the district website. The re-designed site is much more user-friendly. The BCSD Technology Department responded to community and stakeholder focus groups by placing popular items and frequently accessed information in multiple places throughout the website. Parents and stakeholders are encouraged to check out the improved website by visiting: http://www.bcsdschools.net.

A new logo

BCSD continues to grow by almost 1,000 students each year.  We welcome our many new families into our schools.  Recently, district leadership completed the district’s five-year strategic plan, received re-accreditation by AdvancED and established a new vision to “Empower all Students for Success”. Our new logo represents the fresh, innovative direction of the school district. BCSD is expanding its 1:1 Chromebook initiative, sending out Google wifi-enabled buses to the community, offering new career and technical education opportunities and much more.

“I have enjoyed the whirlwind that has been my first year in BCSD,” said Superintendent Brenda Blackburn. “There are so many wonderful and new things happening in the district making now the perfect time to launch a new look representing this excellent school district. I am looking forward to great things in the 2016-17 SY for Berkeley County and BCSD.”
