Bean selected as Communications Director

May 19, 2022

At its meeting Tuesday night, the Kershaw County School Board named Becky Bean as the new Communications Director for the Kershaw County School District (KCSD). Bean has led the communications efforts for the South Carolina School Boards Association since 2015, most recently as its Director of Communications.  She is replacing Mary Anne Byrd who is joining the communications team at the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety.

“Becky brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this position,” said KCSD Superintendent Shane Robbins.  “She has worked in communications at both the local and state K12 education levels as well as in higher education.  In addition, her role as a KCSD parent will help her tremendously in this position.”

Bean served as the Communications Director for Lexington County School District One from 2012 to 2015 and as the Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the University of South Carolina Sumter for three years prior to that.  She has a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design, Business and Marketing from Anderson University.

She is a member of the National School Public Relations Association and the South Carolina Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association. The National School Public Relations Association named her as a Southeast Front Runner in 2017 and a 35 Under 35 Honoree in 2016. Bean served as the president of the SC Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association in 2018-2019. She is a graduate of the Education Policy Fellowship Program and serves as a parent representative on the Carolina Family Engagement Center Advisory Board. Bean is a frequent presenter at educational association conferences on communications, public relations and media relations.

“I am excited to join the KCSD team, where excellence in communications is the standard. It is an honor to be selected for this role, and I look forward to highlighting our amazing educators and promoting the innovative educational opportunities here in the district,” said Bean.

Married to Ryan Bean, they are the parents of Pine Tree Hill Elementary School students Bradley and Macy.
