Benedict College Call Me MISTER Program Students Receives Top Honors

COLUMBIA, SC — On June 13, 2014, three Benedict College Call Me MISTER program students received top honors, the Servant Leadership Award, for excelling in their site internships. Derrick Hearn (junior), Odell Outen (sophomore), and Andre Villaflor (freshman), were first time internship attendees, and earned the highest award that the Call Me MISTER program interns can receive for their site service. In addition, three recent Benedict College Call Me MISTER program graduates, Kier Lewis (spring 2014), Rashuad Brown (fall 2013), and Aubrey Cox-Todd (fall 2013), received their Call Me MISTER blazers, the highest Call Me MISTER program honor.

The Call Me MISTER (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) program is a collaboration between Benedict College and Clemson University to recruit, train, and certify elementary teachers in the public schools of South Carolina. The Benedict College scholars were among 60 other interns from 15 other colleges and universities assigned to various summer internship sites in Upstate South Carolina to teach socio-economically disadvantaged children.
