Benedict College scholar among White House HBCU All-Stars

COLUMBIA, SC – The White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities announced its 2015 HBCU All-Stars, which includes Vi’Dual Cornelius Futch, a sophomore mass communications major at Benedict College and a native of Macon, GA. The All-Stars are 83 undergraduate, graduate and professional students from 70 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), recognized for their accomplishments in academics, leadership and civic engagement.
The All-Stars were selected from more than 450 students who submitted applications that included a transcript, resume, essay, and recommendation. Over the course of the year, the HBCU All-Stars will serve as ambassadors of the White House Initiative on HBCUs by providing outreach and communication with their fellow students about the value of education and the role of the initiative as a networking resource. Through social media and their relationships with community based organizations, the All-Stars will share promising and proven practices that support opportunities for all young people to achieve their educational and career potential.
In addition, the All-Stars will participate in this year’s White House HBCU Week Conference in September as well as various national events, and web chats. The All-Stars will have exceptional opportunities to engage with other HBCU scholars and to showcase their individual and collective talent across the HBCU community.
“I will represent my college with tiger pride and dignity. I look forward to a wonderful year as an HBCU All-Star,” said Vi’Dual Futch. Mr. Futch has aspirations to one day be a politician and college administrator. He is a licensed and trained reverend. In addition to his academic endeavors, he is actively involved in various clubs and organizations in the Benedict community where he is serves as president of the newly chartered Collegiate 100 of Great Columbia and the Phi Beta Lambda. Also, he is an active member of the Benedict College Gospel Choir and Army ROTC.
