July 26, 2019

The 13th Annual Benson Classic Car Show benefiting Greer Community Ministries (GCM) is Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Greer First Baptist Church, 201 W. Poinsett St. The SC Region Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) is helping plan the event that raises funds for Meals on Wheels and other GCM programs.

The family-friendly event is free to the public. Car registration is $20 and is available online at gcminc.org under the events tab. Registration is also available on the day of the event. Lowes Food Greer will sell barbecue plates for $10 and Sno-Hut will sell shaved ice from their mobile truck. The Fifth String Band and Zach Holcombe, GCM accountant, will provide music.

The Blood Connection will be taking donations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Greer First office across the street. Donors will receive a free t-shirt and $10 gift Chick-Fil-A gift card. Prisma Health nurses will offer free blood pressure checks and stroke education and the Greer Centennial Lions Club will give free glaucoma screenings at the event.

“We are thankful that Jim Benson and his team continue to take the lead by sponsoring this event,” said Donny Kauffman, GCM executive director. “Our mission is to provide food and clothing to people in need in the Greater Greer Area. We count it a joy to work with all our supporters and sponsors who help make this happen. Come out and enjoy the cars, food and entertainment, and know that by doing so you are playing a part in helping others in need.”

GCM asks that school supplies for local students be donated at the event. Last August, the ministry provided supplies for more than 500 children.

Sponsorships are still available. The ministry hopes to raise $75,000, enough to provide 18,750 Meals on Wheels lunches.

GCM is a 510(c)(3) nonprofit that has served the greater Greer community since 1972. All services are provided free of charge to those in need. For more information about GCM, visit gcminc.org.
