Benson Steps Down as Presbyterian’s Volleyball Coach

April 28, 2025

Presbyterian College head volleyball coach Steve Benson has accepted the head coaching position at Mercer University. A national search for Presbyterian College’s next head coach is already underway.

“We are so grateful for everything Coach Benson has poured into our program and our student-athletes,” said Presbyterian College Director of Athletics Dee Nichols. “His impact will be felt long after he moves on. Coach Benson will always have a special place in our Blue Hose family and we wish him well on the next chapter of his career.”

During his two seasons at the helm of Presbyterian’s volleyball program (2023-2024), Benson guided the program to back-to-back record-breaking campaigns. In 2023, he led PC to a fourth-place finish in the Big South Conference, the program’s best regular-season finish since 2019. The following year, Benson and his squad secured a spot in the Big South Tournament for the second consecutive season—a feat not accomplished since 2014—and defeated the third-seeded USC Upstate to advance to the tournament semifinals.
