Berlin G. Myers Parkway Extension now open to traffic
May 5, 2025
Dorchester County celebrated a significant milestone in community infrastructure. The Town of Summerville, South Carolina Department of Transportation, and Dorchester County Government joined forces to complete Phase III of the Berlin G. Myers Parkway Extension Project. This project started in 2022 and was finished ahead of schedule.
This $160 million initiative features a brand new four-lane roadway with a beautifully landscaped raised median, upgraded intersections at US 17A, Orangeburg Road, Greenwave Boulevard, Luen Road, and East Carolina Ave, along with a revamped shared-use path along Sawmill Branch that adds an extra 1.5 miles of trail.
Council Member Todd Friddle delivered insightful remarks at the ceremony, and County Administrator Jason Ward; County Councilmen Jay Byars, Eddie Crosby, and Bill Hearn; and Deputy County Administrator – Public Safety Mario Formisano in attendance. Their leadership and commitment underscore our drive to improve safety, reduce congestion, and enhance traffic flow.
The project would not have been possible without the work of State Delegation, former members of Dorchester County Transportation Authority, Senator Lindsey Graham, and Senator Tim Scott, as well as the hardworking construction crews and dedicated workers whose relentless effort made this project a reality.
