Bi-Lo Partners with Liquid Highway for Gourmet Coffee Experience
September 30, 2010New Joint Venture Also Extends Shared Commitment to Serving Others
GREENVILLE, SC – September 28, 2010 – BI-LO announced that Liquid Highway, one of the Upstate’s most popular hand-crafted and micro-brewed coffee companies, will be opening coffee houses in participating BI-LO locations. Liquid Highway will take the place of JJ Poloi’s Coffee Shop, BI-LO’s previous in-store signature coffee partner since 2006. Arriving only in certain stores, Liquid Highway will operate and function in each location like fully independent shops, staffed with specially trained baristas to offer customers the best in gourmet coffee.
BI-LO’s first Liquid Highway location is at the BI-LO store on Woodruff Road in Simpsonville. The other five BI-LO locations to house Liquid Highway coffee shops will follow in the coming months, including the Super BI-LO stores on Pelham Road and Verdae Boulevard in Greenville; the BI-LO stores on Highway 14 and Fairview Road in Simpsonville; and the Clemson BI-LO off Old Greenville Highway.
“BI-LO is very excited to be partnering with Liquid Highway as we seek to offer customers the best in gourmet coffee,” said Allen Reavis, BI-LO’s director of deli bakery marketing. “This is also a great opportunity for us to extend our mission of giving back to the local community.”
Like BI-LO, Liquid Highway has an intense passion for positively impacting the local community. Already supporting medical clinics, orphanages and schools in over 27 countries worldwide, Liquid Highway donates every cent after taxes to help people around the world live a healthier and more fulfilling life. A committed corporate citizen, BI-LO has donated more than $52 million since 1983 through its BI-LO Charities efforts to organizations across the company’s operating markets.
Serving coffee that’s been roasted locally in Greenville, S.C., Liquid Highway has multiple blends for the perfect pit-stop. Liquid Millennium, a darker roast with molasses and herbs, is a full-bodied coffee with a smoky aftertaste. Mexican French Roast has a sparkling acidity combined with milk chocolate and raspberry, Decaf Medium Roast is rich and sweet, while the Nicaraguan blend is the “classic” cup of coffee.
“Whatever your choice of coffee, we’ve got it all,” said Theda Vaughan, president of Liquid Highway. “We’re thrilled to join forces with such an outstanding corporation like BI-LO, one that shares with us our vision of putting others before ourselves.”
