BlueChoice HealthPlan Adds Coverage for Young Adults and New Plans for Small Businesses

May 5, 2009

COLUMBIA, SC – May 5, 2009 –  Effective now, BlueChoice® HealthPlan of South Carolina has expanded its health plans available to individuals as well as to small businesses.

It added a new individual product, BlueChoice® for Young Adults, for individuals up to age 30, and it significantly expanded the number of plans in its CarolinaADVANTAGE series for businesses with 50 or fewer employees.

Individuals covered under the existing BlueChoice® for Kids plan, which previously ended when the member turned 25, are now automatically enrolled in a BlueChoice for Young Adults policy on the member’s 19th birthday. Members are eligible on this plan until they turn 30. In addition, members no longer have to be unmarried to qualify.

For South Carolina businesses with 50 or fewer employees, the additional CarolinaADVANTAGE plans feature greater affordability and flexibility. Members can visit any doctor they choose, without getting a referral from a primary care physician. Members can stay within the BlueChoice HealthPlan network or seek medical care outside the network. BlueChoice HealthPlan’s provider network consists of more than 8,500 physicians and 64 South Carolina hospitals, as well as national and international coverage through the BlueCard® network.

The individual and group plans may be purchased through a local BlueChoice HealthPlan agent or by calling BlueChoice HealthPlan at 800-327-3183, ext. 25210.
