Bluestein, Nichols, Thompson, and Delgado's Sullivan leads Young Lawyers Division committee to national honors

November 5, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – November 5, 2013 – A committee of the S.C Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD), chaired by Allison P. Sullivan of Bluestein Nichols Thompson and Delgado, LLC, won second place for Service to the Public in the prestigious Awards of Achievement at the American Bar Association Annual Meeting held last month.

The award was given for iCivics, a national web-based education project designed to teach students about civics and inspire them to be active participants and leaders in our democracy. Members of the S.C. YLD assist with implementing this program throughout South Carolina by planning and sponsoring conferences to teach educators how to use iCivics in their classrooms.

In addition to her work on the iCivics committee, which she launched and has chaired for the past three years, Sullivan also recently began serving on the Board of the Leadership Columbia Alumni Association.

At its core, iCivics is about providing kids an interactive and fun way to learn about civics and how our government works, said Sullivan. Our committee was honored to win this award. Our real reward will be seeing more teachers and students benefitting from the wealth of information and fun that awaits on iCivics.org.

The S.C. Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD) won four prestigious Awards of Achievement overall, including first place for Newsletters, another second place for Service to the Bar and special recognition for Minority Projects.

The iCivics committee in South Carolina started from scratch, and under the leadership of Allison Sullivan, has become one of the Young Lawyers Division’s preeminent public service projects, said Will Johnson, 2013 – 2014 YLD president. Thanks to this committee’s hard work, South Carolina lawyers have spoken to thousands of elementary school children in the state and enhanced the civics education of those students.
