COLUMBIA, SC – January 5, 2010 – Senior Matters has selected Bobbitt Design Build, LLC, to provide complete construction and project management services for the new Open Living Community facility to be constructed in the 5400 block of Farrow Road in Columbia. Senior Matters and Bobbitt have been working closely with the City of Columbia to coordinate the project and help create the environment for the development of the 10-acre tract.

Construction on the $50 million project is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2010. The state-of-the-art facility will be a model to support the growing senior population in South Carolina.

The Bobbitt team is very excited about this project, and we are looking forward to delivering a first-class facility for seniors, said Eric Vannier, lead project coordinator for Bobbitt. This is one of the most progressive senior care concepts being developed in the nation, and everyone at Bobbitt is proud to be an integral part of the team that will make it a reality.

The five-story building will be designed and constructed with the goal of obtaining a LEED Silver Certification. Totaling 254,000 square feet and located within the 10-acre campus, the facility will consist of 146 living units designed for an open living environment and a main level with approximately 30,000 square feet of commercial space that will support the community lifestyle.

According to Vic Englert, president of Bobbitt Design Build, Bobbitt will seek to utilize local subcontractors to support job growth and economic development in the surrounding area. Bobbitt will draw on our long history of successful projects and our extensive network of high-quality subcontractors to make this project a success, said Englert.
