“Receiving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a testament to our teams’ unwavering commitment to patient safety and high-quality care,” said Matt Caldwell, president of Bon Secours St. Francis Health System. “Every day, our physicians, nurses and staff work to create the safest possible environment for our patients while delivering compassionate care close to home. We are proud to once again be recognized for those efforts and remain committed to serving the Upstate with excellence.”
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to all general hospitals across the country based on more than thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
“An ‘A’ Grade is a strong sign that Bon Secours St. Francis is deeply committed to protecting patients from harm,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
