Boyer Construction awarded Fort Jackson National Cemetery Phase II Expansion

April 29, 2020

Boyer Commercial Construction, Inc. announced that it was awarded the Fort Jackson National Cemetery Phase II Expansion. The 20-acre project will provide 5,632 pre-placed crypts, 2,376 in-ground cremains sites, 729 traditional burial sites, a committal shelter, as well as supporting infrastructure consistent with the completed initial phase. Boyer Commercial Construction, Inc. was selected following a best value trade off competition with six other construction firms.

“We are honored to be selected as the contractor to execute the expansion of this national shrine.” said Justin Schaeffer, Boyer’s Director of Federal Contracts. “Boyer is committed to providing premier service to the veterans in South Carolina by developing new burial areas and expanding permanent facilities at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery.”

Developed in 2009, the 585-acre national cemetery is located in Richland County just off of I-20 on property formerly held by Fort Jackson. Burial in a national cemetery is open to all members of the Armed Forces who have met a minimum active duty service requirement and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. A Veteran’s spouse, widow or widower, minor dependent children, and under certain conditions, unmarried adult children with disabilities may also be eligible for burial. Eligible spouses and children may be buried even if they predecease the Veteran.

“We are extremely humbled to be selected to lead this effort. With this new expansion project, veterans and their families in South Carolina will continue to have access to the burial benefits they have earned for decades to come.” said Brian Boyer, President and Owner of Boyer Commercial Construction, Inc. “We have an incredible team of employees, subcontractors, designers, and consultants who all possess a vested interest in this project. We are dedicated to exceeding the national shrine standards of the National Cemetery Administration as well as the expectations of the Department of Veteran Affairs and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to create a final resting place that our nation’s honored veterans deserve.”
