Brennan Family establishes Endowed Scholarship for Student-Athletes

The Winthrop experience is one close to Kiernan Brennan’s heart: His son, Tomas ’12, ’15, was a four-year soccer player. To support future student-athletes like Tomas, Brennan and his wife, Anne Marie, have established an endowed scholarship.
The Brennan Family Scholarship will provide funds for Winthrop student-athletes, with first preference going to student-athletes from Ireland and second to student-athletes in the men or women’s soccer program.
Winthrop Head Men’s Soccer Coach Daniel Ridenhour said that the new scholarship demonstrates Brennan’s strong commitment to education and athletics.
“Kieran Brennan is a wonderful voice for all that Winthrop University has to offer. He is deeply committed to education and sport, and with this scholarship he has found a way to support his passions,” said Ridenhour.
Brennan, of County Wexford, Ireland, became involved with Winthrop Athletics when his son Tomas “Mossy” enrolled and became a student-athlete. Tomas Brennan helped lead the Eagles to two NCAA College Cups in 2009 and 2012. He earned two degrees at Winthrop: a B.S. in business administration and a M.B.A.
Former Winthrop Head Men’s Soccer Coach Rich Posipanko said that Brennan “certainly values what Winthrop University stands for and its approach to educating young people,” adding that he supports the university’s very strong soccer program.
“We are grateful with the commitment Kieran has made to our program so that we can continue to build on the success of every student-athlete that has been in this program,” noted Posipanko. “Kieran and family will continue to be supporters of Winthrop in the years to come, and they will always be considered part of the Eagle family.”
