Bridge Replacement Over Nichols Creek in Richland County

COLUMBIA, SC – The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) plans to replace the bridge on Firetower Road (S-40-1058) near Irmo in Richland County.
SCDOT Maintenance Forces rated the bridge as structurally deficient. The bridge will be closed on Mar. 30, 2015. Barring any unforeseen delays, the bridge should be reopened to traffic by approximately Jun. 5, 2015. The bridge is being replaced with a new 70 foot core slab bridge.
The proposed detour route is Kennerly Road (S-129), North Wingard Road (S-1689) and Western Lane (S-2894) with an overall travel length of 1.17 miles.
