Broadway hit newsies set to open at The Younts Center for performing arts
August 31, 2026Theatergoers across the Upstate are preparing to “seize the day” as opening night for Disney’s Newsies rapidly approaches at The Younts Center for Performing Arts.
Presented by Ignite Theatrical, the high-energy Broadway musical opens on Friday, September 11, 2026, and runs through Saturday, September 26. With opening day just around the corner, local audiences are encouraged to secure their seats early for one of the community theater company’s most ambitious stagings to date.
Based on the 1992 Disney film and inspired by the real-life Newsboys’ Strike of 1899 in New York City, Newsies tells the inspiring story of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy who rallies a band of young paper sellers against formidable publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst. The production features an award-winning score with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein, including beloved anthems such as “Carrying the Banner,” “King of New York,” and “Seize the Day.”
Boasting an ensemble cast of over 70 local performers, the production features complex choreography, vocal numbers, and period stage design brought to the mainstage in downtown Fountain Inn.
Performance times throughout the two-week run include both evening showings and weekend matinees. Tickets and show schedules are available through the box office and online at yountscenter.org(opens in new tab).
