Bruce Williams named Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of Columbia

December 9, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – The YMCA of Columbia announces Bruce Williams as the new Chief Executive Officer as of Dec. 1, 2015.

Recently retired from BB&T Insurance, Williams is a longtime YMCA member and has served on the YMCA of Columbia Board of Directors for a number of years, including holding the position of Board President. He is a native of Columbia and proud alum of AC Flora High School and the University of South Carolina. Bruce is married to Mason, has two grown children, and just welcomed his first grandchild into the world. His affection for the YMCA began as a youth attending Camp Greenville and has remained steadfast.

“We are very excited to have Bruce Williams as our Y’s new leader,” said Vance Bettis, YMCA of Columbia Board President. “He holds the same values that the YMCA stands for: caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith. He has been an integral part of our Y’s success and will ensure our bright future.”

Williams is eager to grow critical programming in the communities the Y serves, including the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program for cancer survivors, water safety classes, and summer feeding and summer learning loss prevention programs.

The YMCA of Columbia association has six locations in the Midlands: the Ballentine Family YMCA, the Downtown YMCA, the Jeep Rogers Family YMCA at Lake Carolina, the NorthWest Family YMCA in Irmo, the Lexington Family YMCA and the Orangeburg County YMCA; and operates two waterparks in Orangeburg County and six Richland One afterschool sites.
