Building Bridges celebration to honor Ed Mullins

April 6, 2017

Edward W. Mullins Jr., partner emeritus with the law firm Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, will receive the Midlands Mediation Center’s McKay Brabham Award on April 18 as an outstanding and determined champion of justice.

The award will be presented at the Midlands Mediation Center’s Building Bridges Celebration, which also will honor the organization’s volunteer mediators who facilitate informal, confidential mediation sessions.

In being selected for the McKay Brabham Award, Mullins joins other individuals who have been recognized as champions of justice by working for reconciliation and peace and by transcending the barriers of social class, belief systems, racial status and gender. Mullins’ impact has been at the state and national levels, including currently serving on the board of the National Center for State Courts. Mullins devotes considerable time and effort to community causes, especially organizations that address mental health needs.

Mullins is well known for his work to improve the American justice system as well as his leadership and involvement in a wide variety of professional and community organizations.  He has been a Midlands Mediation Center volunteer mediator in both magistrate and family court cases since 2010.

The Midlands Mediation Center is a non-profit conflict resolution organization serving central South Carolina since its founding as the Community Mediation Center in 1998. Much of its current work supports those who are involved in family court or magistrate court matters.  This year marks the 10th anniversary of providing mediation services in Richland and Lexington magistrate courts.

The Building Bridges Celebrations will be held from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, at Earlewood Park’s Community Building. Tickets may be purchased at https:mmcbuildingbridges17@eventbrite.com or by calling (803) 714-1176.
