Building Industry Charitable Foundation awards grants for $70,000 for Flood Relief

COLUMBIA, SC – Since October 2015, the Building Industry Charitable Foundation has provided grants totaling $115,000 to support neighbors across the state that were victims of the historic rain event and subsequent flooding.  The Building Industry Charitable Foundation is a South Carolina nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization located at 625 Taylor Street, Columbia, SC and is affiliated with the Building Industry Association of Central South Carolina (BIA).

SONY DSCAs a result of the flood disaster, the Building Industry Charitable Foundation has received donations from members of the BIA to be distributed to charities and organizations throughout the state that are best suited to help those most in most need of assistance. Recent grants totaling $70,000 in support of ongoing flood relief efforts include:

  • American Red Cross Central South Carolina. The Red Cross continues to provide emergency assistance such as safe shelter, meals and support. Health services workers are helping with lost medications and eye glasses. Mental health services workers are providing emotional support during this difficult time.
  • Home Works of America. Home Works is adjusting their traditional repair process to continue to assist with long term flood recovery, endeavoring to complete rebuilds on a minimum of 10 flood damaged homes around the Midlands in 2016.
  • United Way of Kershaw County. The United Way is helping 22 homeowners in Kershaw County with flooring issues, broken cabinets, window and door damage from swelling and contracting, plumbing concerns and washed out driveways.
  • St. Bernard Project. Funds will be utilized to fund the position for the SC Project Manager to oversee the safe and efficient construction of 25 homes rebuilt for low to moderate income homeowners in the Midlands.
  • Salkehatchie Summer Service. Funding for Camps in flood affected areas to provide no-cost home repairs to those in need. Youth and adults pay to attend the camps and the money is used to purchase the materials.

Last year grants were awarded to the Flood Relief Fund for the United Way of Sumter Clarendon and Lee Counties;  Home Works of America for the ReBuild Together Flood Repair Session and Hope Force International.
